Do I need talent to play shinobue flute?
Q & A: "I don't know if I have enough talent for shinobue. What do you think?"
Answer: Talent is nice, but I've been teaching music all my life and I've seen so many times that it's not the talent that makes someone really good at playing a musical instrument.
What truly matters is a deep love for the instrument.
Practicing is essential for getting good at a musical instrument, but it's important to note that you can't FORCE yourself to practice every day.
You should love shinobue so much, that even practicing shinobue doesn't feel like practicing. That's when you get so good.
I have adult shinobue students with no prior musical background playing shinobue beautifully. They love shinobue and they make the time to play regularly.
Somedays, I don't feel like "practicing", but I make sure I play even just a little bit.
It's like building a relationship. If you keep on ignoring your partner, don't be surprised if your partner ignores you when you play (by not making any sound!!) 😄
So, the question should be "Do I love shinobue? Do I think shinobue is cool?" instead of "Do I have talent for shinobue?"
What is your answer???
