How a Mirror Can Change Your Shinobue Game - The Easiest Way to Get Better!!
What we "think" we are doing and what we are actually doing can be vastly different. That's why dance studios have mirrors everywhere. Using a mirror can be a game changer for shinobue learners, too.
How to buy and place a mirror to level up your shinobue practice.
Get a full-length or long enough mirror to show your body at least down to your knees.
Do not use a mirror that only shows your face. You play shinobue with your whole body.
Do not use a hand-held mirror.
Make sure to hang the mirror with a space in front of it so you can freely stand and play.
Good lighting is a must so you can see yourself clearly in the mirror.
This is my current mirror. It's large enough to show down to my knees.
Use your mirror to check your shinobue technique:
Does your mouth shape change when you play ryo on to kan on? (it shouldn't change.)
Is your body facing 2 o'clock? (It should be).
Is the pit of your stomach caved in? (It shouldn't be.)
Are your shoulders up and tight? (They shouldn't be.)
Are you smiling? (You shouldn't be.)
I used to use a full-length mirror that leaned on the wall like this one in Ohio.
Which choice would you make?
Choice 1. Practice for months without noticeable improvements.
Choice 2. Get a mirror and fix your issues.
NO BRAINER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😃
