Sunayama (Sand Dunes) 砂山

Konnnichiwa! This is a very beautiful Japanese song composed by Mr. Shinpei Nakayama. It’s a good song to practice both ryo on and kan on.

  • Difficulty Level (4 being the hardest): 2 (Somewhat Easy)

  • Contains both ryo on and kan on

  • Contains kan on 5, which might be challenging

  • Sheet music contains western style notation for 6 hon choshi, but if you use the Japanese fingering numbers, you can use any hon choshi.

  • To learn how to read Japanese finger numbers, watch this video: https://youtu.be/hbj6opXnf9I

Here is how you can play this piece with shinobue.

I also created a piano accompaniment karaoke.

  • The first 10 seconds is silent so you have time to pick up your shinobue and get into the playing posture.

  • Use 6 hon choshi for karaoke.

Here is a video of me performing this piece as a sample using my karaoke.
